EA Acquires PopCap Games For Almost $1 Billion - Though the rumors have been around for quite a long time now, but it has been made official now that the gaming major Electronic Arts has acquired PopCap Games for an astounding $750 million.

The official takeover of EA on PopCap Games will take place in August, but both the companies have agreed on it and the deal is already done. PopCap Games is a prominent game developer, and is known for several games that the company has developed for iPad, iPhone and Facebook, formats. Some of the popular games developed by the company include the likes of the bejeweled series and Plant vs. Zombies.

The press release from both the company reported, John Riccitiello, the EA CEO saying “The combination of EA and PopCap is a compelling coming together”. “The superb studio talent and brawny IP of PopCap, will add superb momentum to EA and also will accelerate company’s accelerate towards the $1 billion digital business. At the same time the global studio and publishing network of the company will also help PopCap fastly enlarge their business to even more digital devices and more channels and more countries.”

Speaking on the takeover, CEO of PopCap, David Roberts said, “We chose EA because they have recast their ethnicity around making superb digital games.” “In collaboration with EA we will be able to scale our services and games in order to deliver even more mobile, social and casual fun to audiences all over the globe.”
